Yoga for Dignity Sat 2nd Sept 9.30am

Yoga for Dignity Sat 2nd Sept 9.30am

On Saturday 2nd September at 9.30am Alpine Yoga would like to invite you to join in what will be Australia's biggest Yoga event.
This class is part of an Australia wide event organised by Share the Dignity to bring awareness and raise funds for some 48,000 homeless women living in Australia.

Social workers have raised concerns about a new homeless epidemic here in Australia. Ongoing research into a growing housing crisis among Australia’s ageing baby boomer women, especially in regional Australia, has identified the problem as a “sleeping giant”.

Charities are reporting that in the past 5 years there's been a 44 per cent rise in the number of women seeing homelessness services.  An overall rise in homelessness by 80% in the past two years, and sadly growing.

The majority of cases are due to women being victims of widowhood, domestic violence, rising divorce rates, illness, injury, the gender pay gap and booming rents.

Government statistics show half a million women will be affected by housing stress within the next two decades.

Having been homeless myself in my late teens, this issue is very close to my heart.  With current economics and rising rents, this problem is no longer one just attributed to the poor, drug addicted or mentally ill.  It could happen to those we love, or any one of us, should our situation suddenly change.  Government funding is not enough to cope with this growing issue of epidemic proportions.

Please join us and help raise funds for thousands in need.

On Sat 2nd of September, Yogi's from all around the country will gather on the same day, similar time in a different place!

6 Week Beginners Introduction to Yoga

Yoga is not about touching your toes, its about what you learn on the way down
— Judith Hanson Lasater

Have you ever wanted to experience the benefits of Yoga, but feel a little intimidated at the thought of walking into a class with other more experienced students?  Are you wanting to embrace change, but are self conscious of your body shape or size?

Everybody has to start somewhere, and knowing the barriers some face, Alpine Yoga is happy to announce a 6 week introductory workshop for those wishing to begin their yogic journey.  The course is designed to introduce new students and those who may not have much previous experience to the various aspects of yoga, involving asana (poses), pranayama (breath work) and various other concepts and philosophy of this ancient practice.

Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that aims to transform body, mind, and soul… and so much more. An age old modality with health and fitness benefits, as well as healing attributes that a regular yoga practice can produce; improved flexibility, stronger muscles, drop in blood pressure, rise in heart rate, better sleep, improves respiration, anxiety and depression, bringing calmness to mind and body. Over time we learn that beyond the physical, it’s what we learn about ourselves on the mat that we can bring into the other areas of our lives, and that can be the most reflective part of a yoga practice.

You do not have to be fit, flexible or relaxed to start yoga but with regular attendance to class and personal practice, your body will become strong and more pliable, your stamina will increase and your mind will calm. It is important that your first exposure to yoga practice is comfortable, enjoyable and rewarding.

The course is designed so that even those who have not exercised for a while will be able to manage the pace.  Age is no barrier.

Six week introductory course
Price $80

This includes six consecutive Saturday morning classes commencing 9.45am Sat 25th Feb (75 - 90min duration), finishing on Sat 1st April 2017.

The course content includes:

  • Natural Breathing which helps to ease anxiety and tension, calming the body and mind.
  • Awareness and implementation of movements that bring about comfortable, balanced posture. This can help you to feel more relaxed and confident with yourself while also restoring your energy and freeing discomfort in the body.
  • Awareness and implementation of stretches that help to keep your spine strong, pliable and healthy, easing aches and pains and improving flexibility.
  • Slow, flowing sequences of movements (asanas) to build whole body flexibility, strength and stamina, creating a feeling of inner freedom and increasing energy levels.
  • Relaxation and meditation techniques to increase self awareness, personal growth and total well-being.

To register please email Sonya at info@alpineyoga.com.au

WEEKEND ASHTANGA WORKSHOP WITH PAUL FRECHTLING

Come and join one of Australia’s Senior Ashtanga Teachers, Paul Frechtling, in this Ashtanga Yoga weekend intensive. Comprised of four individual sessions over three days, this is a level and quality of training you would not want to miss.  http://bluemountainsashtangayoga.com.au/

Ashtanga Yoga has been a big part of Paul Frechtling's life for the last 20 years. He was introduced to yoga in the late eighties and began a dedicated daily Ashtanga practice around 1992. Finding the flow of breath and postures of Ashtanga so beneficial for both body and mind, he began teaching this style to others so they could also feel the benefits and now teaches both in Sydney as well as the Blue Mountains. Paul teaches with care and understanding to slowly cultivate deeper awareness and encourage a daily practice.

He has been to Mysore, India to study under the master Sri K Pattabhi Jois and his grandson, Sharath, who gave him authorization to teach. Other teachers who have greatly influenced him have been Graeme Northfield, Peter Sanson and Eileen Hall. Paul has also studied Anatomy and Physiology to encourage greater body awareness, pranayama and meditation. He has worked with people with injuries and illnesses and found Ashtanga Yoga to be very beneficial for all types of people.

In this workshop Paul will offer students an opportunity to deepen their practice through led and Mysore-style classes. We will work on technical aspects of the practice as well as focusing on breath and flowing movement. This is a great opportunity for students of all levels to experience a weekend of intensive Ashtanga Yoga practice with a senior teacher of this tradition.
